Introduction

The Castle range was the first one to be released and is probably the most popular. It was replaced by the Magic Castle range in 1999 but all the pieces are the same size and completely interchangeable. The only difference is that these pieces will not unlock special sounds on the magic castle. Below you will find a list of all the Castle sets that I know of -  If you know of anything not listed please let me know (address is at the bottom of the page).

Fisher Price Great Adventures Castle (1st version) (1994-96)

Within these walls imagination reigns for magical kings, daring knights and young adventurers! This castle is bursting with action features that are easy for small hands to work, and comes with plenty of brave knights to defend the kingdom.

Description

This is a great Castle and knight play set that comes with everything needed to recreate a medieval battle or siege. The castle features a working drawbridge operated by a lever on the inside and it has a number of  defences. The section of wall directly above the drawbridge folds down to reveal a working cannon which can shoot any of the three included boulders and the roof of the back tower flips over to reveal a catapult that can also fire them. The middle section of the left tower flips down so that knights can hide behind it and there is a trap door on the roof of the tallest tower which can be opened making any unwanted visitors fall into the dungeon below. Inside the castle there are ledges and windows for the defending knight to look and shoot out of and there is a round table for them to sit round. This castle comes with the good King McBeard and 4 brave gold knights and the bad King Smudge and 4 loyal black knights. Pressing on the kings heads makes them swing their weapons and the other knights have moveable arms.

Note: The new version of the castle came with different knights and no table, it has a red fisher price logo as opposed to a blue one. The black knights can be distinguished from the other black knights by their unicorn shield design - I only have one of them at present, but the others had the same weapons as the red knights.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Dungeon Trap (1998)

The brave knight has searched the kingdom for the golden treasure. Will he be able to reach it? Or will the tricky skeleton guard send him through the trap door into the dungeon?

Description

This is a nice mini dungeon play set. There is a secret button that makes the roof collapse, dropping whoever is on it into the dungeon, and the dungeon door opens and closes. It comes with a skeleton guard complete with key and a brave knight armed with a hammer. Both figures have moveable arms.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Trojan Horse (1998-99)

Shhhh - it's a secret. Prepare for a fight. This seeming horse may house a knight! Spring loaded hammering head plus disk launching tail. Comes with one Great Adventures knight.

Description

Recreate the famous battle of Troy with this excellent Great Adventures accessory set. The horse can be wheeled into position and pressing the button on it's back will make it's head 'hammer' down destroying anything in its path. It's tail is spring loaded allowing it to fire the two included yellow disks and both sides of the horse fold down to reveal space for a small army to hide in. It comes with a special mechanic figure who has moveable arms and is holding a spanner.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Dragon Tower (1996-97)

The castle is under attack! This giant dragon is a mobile fortress which can fire arrows from it's mouth. A door opens to reveal a mobile battering ram. Comes with 2 Great Adventures knights.

Description

This mini siege tower adds a whole new element to Great Adventures battles. It can be wheeled into position and then launch one of the three included red arrows from it's mouth by pulling back on the hammer. The side door opens and the front door folds down to reveal a mini battering ram that one of the knights can ride. It comes with a special Dragon Master knight and his Loyal Assistant, both figures have moveable arms.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Boulder Blaster (1994-96)

This fun and exciting mobile cannon is always ready to challenge the Great Adventures castle. As the brave knight directs the action, the child operated crank launches three boulders in rapid succession. Although the boulders look real, they're lightweight for a gentle landing.

Description

This cannon is a great addition to any Great Adventures army. It comes with three red cannon balls that can lined up on the top. Once it has been wheeled into position, turning the handle will fire all three - one after the other. It comes with a special knight with moveable arms and wielding a torch.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Fire Breathing Dragon (1998)

It's a two-eyed, two-horned, flying purple fire 'spitter'! The Great Adventures Dragon is a mighty purple creature with blue wings that flap, and a fire breathing mouth that "spits fire". The terrifying creature must be stopped! A Great Adventures knight comes with the set to save the day!

Description

This is a huge fire breathing dragon, it has a button on it's tail that when pressed 'spits' a burst of fire that will knock down any knight in it's path. It also has moveable wings, arms, legs head and tail and comes with a special Dragon Slaying Knight that has moveable arms.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Dragon Set (1995)

'Burny' the Dragon is on the loose again! Will the brave Dragon Tamer be able to stop him, or will the Great Adventures Castle end up in flames?

Description

This set consists of 'Burny' the Red Dragon and a rare yellow shielded Dragon Tamer. The Dragon features jaws that move and a head that swivels and the Dragon Tamer has moveable arms.

Note: This is a rare set and is very hard to find with the dragon slayer. The only thing that sets him apart from other knights is his shield and so he normally gets mixed up with other black knights. The red dragon is exactly the same as the Dragon that comes in the dragon duel set with the obvious exception of his colours.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Dragon Duel (1996-97)

The fierce dragon has jaws that open and close and a head that swivels. He's stolen the castle treasure! The two dragon-taming knights are ready for a daring rescue. All figures are easy to stand and pose.

Description

This set consists of a Blue Dragon, 2 Dragon Taming Knights and an opening chest of treasure. The Dragon features jaws that move and a head that swivels and the Dragon Taming Knights have moveable arms.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Giant (1997-98)

A fierce villain sets the ground shaking around the great adventures castle. Footsteps echo throughout the land. 'Blundar' the giant is on his way! Should the knights run from this new enemy, or stay and fight?

Description

Blundar the giant features bendable arms for punching and grabbing things and comes with his companion Talon the Eagle, a club, and a Knight prisoner. When Blundar is 'stomped' on the ground he makes the sound of a giant's thundering footsteps.

Note: Pictured is the knight that came with my giant but the giant was sold with any one of the knights that came with the 1st edition castle (black or gold).

Fisher Price Great Adventures Jousting Knights (1994-96)

The kingdoms two bravest knights go head to head but who will win? One can knock the other off his horse with a touch to the shield!

Description

This set enable all the excitement of jousting matches to be recreated in the Great Adventures world and consists of two knights and two horses. The knights lances can be position as desired and then the knight can be placed on the horse. The horses are wheeled so they can be rolled towards each other and the first lance to hit the opponents shield will cause the opposing knight to be 'ejected' from his saddle - making the other one the winner.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Wizard Pack (1995-96)

Alacazam! The kingdoms most powerful wizard brings his magic to the battle. Protected by his two loyal knights, will they be enough to defend the Great Adventures castle?

Description

This set consists of a powerful wizard and his two loyal Knights, Sir Grape and Sir Plum, which can be added to your great adventures army to add even more variety to the battles. All three figures have moveable arms.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Fire Guard And Ice Brigade (1995-98)

Two groups of rival knights go to battle. Will the Ice Brigade be able to 'extinguish' the Fire guard. Or will the guards flames 'melt' the brigade's attack.

Description

This is a set of two groups of rival knights consisting of 2 kings and 6 knights. when the King's heads are pressed their weapons move, all the knights feature moveable arms.

Note: My son has lost one of his 'Fire Guard' figures which is why I have not been able to photograph them all.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Knights / Kings Guard (1994 / 1996)

A pack of three individually coloured knights.

Description

This is a pack of three Special Knights, each with moveable arms - add them to your Great Adventures army for even bigger battles!

Figures: 1 Red Knight, 1 Silver Knight, 1 Blue Knight.

Note: These knights can be distinguished from similar looking ones (i.e. the red ones that come with the 2nd edition castle) by their unique griffon shield designs.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Black Knights (1994-95)

Replacement or additional knights for your Great Adventures castle.

Description

This is a pack of three Black Knights, each with moveable arms - add them to your Great Adventures army for even bigger battles!

Fisher Price Great Adventures Gold Knights (1994-95)

Fisher Price Great Adventures McDonald's Happy Meal Set (1995)

A knight and green dragon figure given a way free with McDonald's happy meals.

Description

This set consists of a special Black Knight and exclusive Green Dragon that were not available to buy.

Figures: 1 Special Black Knight.

Note: I think it was only McDonald's in the US that took part in this promotion and so these toys can be quite difficult to find. This set appears to be more common than the Toys R Us set.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Toys R Us Set (1995)

A knight and red dragon figure exclusive to Toys R Us.

Description

This set consists of a special Black Knight and exclusive Red Dragon that were not available to buy.

Figures: 1 Special Black Knight.

Note: I think it was only Toys R Us stores in the US that took part in this promotion and so these toys can be quite difficult to find. This set appears to be rarer than McDonald's set.

Fisher Price Great Adventures Invisible Knight (1994)

This knight was never sold in shops. The only way you could get one was by sending off for one along with proof of purchase of another Great Adventures toy (I think this offer only applied in the US). Naturally, not that many people bothered and so this is a very rare figure.

Description

This is a very rare and exclusive 'invisible' knight figure made from clear plastic - it has moveable arms.

Fisher Price Great Adventures 'Legendary Heroes' King Arthur

Larger than life and braver than brave, the legend of King Arthur comes to life! Read the exciting story of this daring ruler and his adventures with the knights of the round table, then act out your own adventures with King Arthur.

Description

This set consists of a large and fully articulated King Arthur figure. A button on his back activates his 'chopping' arm action and he comes with a sword and a shield. The sword can also be placed in the stone and pressing the button on the stone releases the sword. Comes with a beautifully illustrated story book.
