Comments:

This has the same product number as the first edition castle so I can only assume it is a direct replacement. Despite being released in 2003 I have found it difficult to find - presumably because there is still a vast amount of stock of the first edition castle to sell through first. As for why Fisher Price opted to revise the castle so soon, my guess is that it was to reduce costs (so making the castle more competitively priced) and also to increase stability. This sets eliminates expensive accessories like the light and sound feature and discards pointless accessories like the ivy and some gargoyles. the instructions also tell you exactly where to put the connectors (whereas the original castle just told you to add these wherever you liked) - presumably people were finding that their castle kept falling apart. Whatever the case it's still a very good castle (same size as the original) and suitably different to justify owning both, my son uses this as the 'baddy' castle and the other one for the 'goodies'.
